Land Acknowledgment

Grace Therapy and Wellness Center acknowledges that the land on which our practice resides, Oak Park, Illinois, was originally inhabited by Potawatomi, Sauk, and Fox Indians. When the area was overtaken by colonizers in the 1830’s, these tribes were brutally forced off their land and moved to areas such as Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Indiana.

Since this land is stolen and we can no longer give it back, it is important that we find other ways that we can give back to Native Americans now. To learn about and support our local Native people, please visit Chicago’s American Indian Center. Please also consider supporting a local American Indian artist. In order to no longer silence and erase Native voices, we strive to not only acknowledge the harm done by colonization, but also learn about Native people and their struggles, and financially and emotionally support their wellness.
